Smith's Was Appointed to the President's National Infrastructure Advisory Council.
As a subject matter expert, Smith’s was appointed to the President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC) Electrification subcommittee in 2023, tasked with advising the White House on improving the security and resilience of the nation’s electrical infrastructure. Our report on Managing the Infrastructure Challenges of Increasing Electrification was accepted in December 2023. In 2024, Smith’s was appointed to the Disaster Response and Resiliency subcommittee. Our report Reimagining Disaster Relief and Resiliency was presented in December 2024.

Smith’s Infrastructure Gradings helps inform the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Report Card. A member of the Committee since 2023, Smith’s is the Energy Lead for the National Report Card, published every four years and for the annual State Report Cards.

Smith’s team was named one of five finalists from teams representing 147 different countries in the MIT Climate CoLab “Solve” Contest for Climate Change Solutions. Terence Smith, CEO of Smith’s Research & Gradings, led his team in presenting their CO2 Waste Heat Exchange Model at the United Nations in a worldwide session.
Smith’s Epidemic Risk Gradings was Launched in 1998, Pre-Dating COVID-19.
Smith’s has pioneered the tracking of contagious disease since 1998. Over the past two decades, Smith’s Research has developed proprietary data on how these diseases spread (epidemiology) and, more importantly, the impact on state, local, and governments. Smith’s Pandemic Risk Gradings has continuously tracked, for more than 20 years, outbreaks of Ebola, Dengue Fever, Typhus, Influenza, Sars, Mers, Drug Resistant TB, HIV, and the whole host of nasty bugs and viruses. It has always been a part of our surveillance of critical infrastructure and sovereign/sub-sovereign credit quality.
Research Experience in Carbon Sequestration
Smith’s was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy for the RECS Program (Research Experience in Carbon Sequestration). RECS is the premier carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) education and training experience in the U.S. RECS is sponsored by the U.S. DOE, Office of Fossil Energy and the National Energy Technology Laboratory. The RECS network represents the nation’s best-in-class in the CCUS field.
